Our History

Tom’s Electric Company was established in Rochester, Minnesota in 1919. The name was changed to T.E.C. Industrial Inc. when the business was incorporated in 1967. At that time, the business was purchased by Bill and Mary Perry and Dick Hexum.

The Perry’s bought Hexum's portion in 1970, and the business moved to a larger building on the southeast side of Rochester. In the early 1980’s Bob and Jim Perry began working at the business.

In 1995 Bob and Jim bought out their parents, venturing into the second generation of the family business. The business grew throughout the years, and has had as many as nine stores throughout the upper Midwest. Many fine employees and years of hard work have built the business into a long established fixture in southern Minnesota.

To augment the company’s sales, many product lines and services have been added over the years. A line of Power Transmission products were the first to be added when TEC became a Browning distributor.

As distribution was added, it became apparent that the ability to provide value-added services to customers had real merit. The company grew throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s, and expanded by purchasing the assets of a machine shop to augment the electric motor repair business. With the added dimension of a machine shop and hiring of the needed employees, TEC further expanded the services it could provide to the different industries we served.

With diversification, a new building in Rochester, and a new and expanding client base, we entered into the job shop sector of our business. With the ability to both build and supply parts to industry, TEC has established a niche market that we continue to serve into the 21st century.

In January of 2020 TEC entered into its next phase with the sale of the business to Marcel Black and Jim's son Nathan Perry. TEC, with the mentor-ship of Bob and Jim will continue to seek out value-added opportunities to serve our customers and our community, and are proud of the many people that the helped us along the way. Although our products and services have expanded throughout the years, we are proud to run our business much the same today as we did in 1967. It is only through the help and dedication of our hard working employees that we continue to succeed and move forward.

If we can be of service to you, please let us know we will strive to always provide you with top quality state of art products and superior service to complete all your power transmission needs.
